Doyle New York Event

Personal Observations from the Executive Director: Our intention for this event was to present Georgia in a positive light while at the same time seeking assistance for our humanitarian programs to help children. To continue our long-term program of popularizing Georgian art in America, Doyle New York, AFG and the Georgian Ambassadors to the UN and the U.S. hosted a reception and silent auction on November 29, 2004 at the Doyle New York auction house. The evening event was made possible by the generosity of Kathleen M. Doyle, Chairman/CEO of the Doyle New York auction house and her talented staff. Featured were paintings, sculpture, textile art and cloisonné (enamel) jewelry. The Soros Open Society Foundation gave AFG a grant, which made it possible to transport the art from Georgia. The wines from Teliani Valley were provided by Georgian House of Greater Washington. This was another step in our efforts to make unknown art from Georgia more valuable in the American art market.

I was pleased that we were able to auction all of the art and send the proceeds back to the Georgian artists. Half of the proceeds went to our projects for needy Georgian children. Several of the artists generously contributed their share of the proceeds to help Georgian children.
