AFG Projects: Elderly: Assistance
Activity Club
Personal Observations from the Executive Director: Recognizing a special need among the lonely elderly, Dr. Nestan Duduchava created the NGO Amagi to provide a social Activity Club for the mentally healthy elderly. The Swiss organization, Geneva Initiative in Psychiatry, provided a 6-month grant to start the first club of its kind in Georgia. Many of the elderly, due to the stress of the last decade, suffer from depression, hopelessness and low self-esteem. The Club offers a warm place to meet, drink tea, have refreshments, socialize and listen to music. Started by Nestan to provide increased mental stimulation, there are at present over 100 regular members enjoying this respite from isolation.
AFG Accomplishments: AFG and the Evelyn Stefansson Nef Foundation have:
- Provided funds to purchase diesel fuel for heat, refreshments and activity materials such as crafts, puzzles, books, games and card
Current Needs: The Activity Club for the elderly needs:
- Funds for the expansion of this Activity Club to other neighborhoods in Tbilisi as well as other regions in Georgia
