AFG: Projects: Other: Culture & Art
AFG GalleryPersonal Observations from the Executive Director: The beauty of Georgian art can be seen in this limited collection of examples of art which AFG has exhibited in the U.S. AFG would like to thank the artists who generously donated a portion of the sale of their work for needy Georgian children. Additional examples of Georgian arts and crafts can be seen at the Proteus Gowanus Gallery at 543 Union Street in Brooklyn, NY and at www.proteusgowanus.com. The gallery will work directly with Georgian artists and artisans recommended by AFG, and will highlight work that sold well at past AFG events, focusing on arts and crafts that reflect Georgia’s ancient historical and cultural significance. The work will be exhibited with descriptive text and information about AFG programs. For example, a replica of a tiny gold lion from the 23rd century B.C.E., or contemporary enamel work that uses the ancient Georgian technique, will be exhibited and sold with a printed description of its cultural and historic significance, somewhat like a museum shop.
