AFG: Projects: Other: Culture & Art
Beadleston Gallery EventPersonal Observations of the Executive Director: As one approach to educating Americans about Georgian art and culture, AFG held an exhibit and reception of Georgian art and artifacts on June 19, 2001 at the Beadleston Gallery in New York City. Our board member, Georgian prima ballerina Nina Ananiashvili, spoke movingly about the beauty and needs of her native land. The Beadleston Gallery was given to us for the evening by the generosity of the Beadleston family. On display were paintings, textile art, sculpture, enamel art, felt art and photographs brought from Georgia by AFG specifically for this exhibition. I wanted to show a small window into the wonderful rich and varied world of Georgian art. We also introduced Georgian food, wine and music. Georgian vineyards have been making wine for thousands of years. Our New York guests, who have access to hundreds of different cuisines from around the world, had a chance to enjoy unique Georgian food. Funds raised went to the artists as well as our projects for needy Georgian children.
