Telavi Orphanage and Boarding School

Telavi OrphanagePersonal Observations from the Executive Director: An article appeared in the New York Times about the difficult circumstances experienced by the children in the Telavi Orphanage and Boarding School, which receives orphans, refugee and poor children whose families cannot afford to keep them.  One of our regular supporters asked AFG to arrange for the delivery of a pillow for each child because the article said they had no pillows.  It is complicated to send articles from the U.S. to Georgia.  Therefore, the pillows had to be purchased in Georgia and delivered to the orphanage.  The orphanage director did not know they were coming and when the pillows were delivered by Lena Kiladze, he had tears in his eyes and said, “Pillows are sweeter than chocolate because they give sweet dreams.”  The children excitedly helped pass the pillows from the rented van through a window into the building.

AFG Accomplishments: AFG has:

  • Purchased and delivered 120 pillows and candies for the children

Current Needs: As with other state run institutions in Georgia, there are major ongoing needs for all of their operating necessities, including food, clothing and building renovations.
