Georgian Publishing House Sakhe(l)ebi organized a charity auction to support AFG work in Palliative care / the Mercy Center Hospice at the convent of Transfiguration in Tbilisi.
The funds raised during the auction – 13 000 lari – will be used to help 75 centenarians living in Georgia, as well as to support the Home care/nursing program of Mercy Center Hospice.
The auction featured an array of treasures from an antique Georgian knife (Kinjal), donated by Fridon Sulaberidze a legendary folk dancer and well-known writer Guram Dochanashvili's pen and book with his autograph, to modern a “Toyota” quad-bike -- and even an audiotape of a song dedicated to the Japan tragedy, sang by ambassador of Japan Masayoshi Kamohara as well paintings of well known Georgian artists.
The publishing house Sakhe(l)ebi, part of the Georgian media industry, organized the event as the “best proof” that people involved in media should care for “people in need, noted Nana Akobidze, the editor-in-chief of Sakhe(l)ebi.
Lena Kiladze, AFG's executive director in Georgia, added that the “cooperation of AFG and Sakhe(l)ebi is an interesting experience of partnership between business company and charity organization, it's part of AFG's mission to restore tradition of Philanthropy in Georgia and encourage corporate giving activities in the country”.
