Transportation of Children for Radiation Treatment in Freiburg, Germany
Building on the success of 2007, AFG continued to raise funds to help transport children to Freiburg Clinic in Germany and improve the lives of the young patients, and their parents, in Tbilisi. The Freiburg Clinic in Germany has graciously offered to treat these Georgian children at a greatly reduced rate. In August 2009, AFG held an auction of donated artwork and crafts at the Hanger Bar in Tbilisi in order to send three teenage boys to Freiburg, Germany for radiation treatment, which is not yet available in Georgia. Funds were also raised in the U.S. by AFG in cooperation with the Georgian Association.
AFG’s accomplishment:
To date, AFG has helped several children receive vital treatment in Germany, including Nasib Samedov, 8, who was sent to the clinic in 2008. Funds raised in August 2009 were able to send four boys to Germany for life saving radiation treatment. These were Levan Gurgenidze, a 18 year old law student with Hodgkin's lymphoma, Levan Miqelashvili, a 17 year old with myeloid leukemia, and Bachuki Ioseliani, a 14 year old and Giorgi Jvarsheishvili, a 13 years old with myeloid leukemia.
In February 2010, AFG was able to respond to the urgent request to send Giorgi Mskhiladze, a 25 year old Georgian with leukemia to the Hadasa Clinic in Israel for an urgently needed operation. The International Women’s Association in Tbilisi and AFG successfully raised enough funds both in Georgia and in the U.S. to cover the life saving surgery in Israel needed by Giorgi Mskhiladze.
